I hate both Richard Mille and Aventi equally. The difference is Nadal wears Richard Mille which made people think it’s an attractive watch, and all the plasticky feeling and texture of it became innovation and high end tech. I’ve seen one person in the wild with a moon swatch and at first I thought he was into watches and knowledgeable and got it for the novelty of it all. Nope I was wrong. That’s the only watch he wears and I genuinely think he thinks he bought something worthwhile. Don’t get me wrong the moon swatch has its place but none should ever only have just the moon swatch. You’re better off with just owning a gshock if you are going to own just one watch.

I bought the MoonSwatch mission to the Moon THEN I bought a new Speedmaster Professional Moon watch. I bought the Scuba X Fifty Fathoms THEN a I bought a new Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. I doubt I’m the only person to do this. Genius marketing IMO.

I was a Rolex maxi > bought a MoonSwatch > 2 weeks later bought a Moon Watch.

Bakelite was discontinued primarily because it’s toxic. Not because it’s fragile though that’s something worth considering.

I love this watch, but personally I can't justify the purchase. Not for the price, but for the functionality. Basically, we all have smartphones, and they are better at the functions provided by this or any other watch. As of right now, it just serves as a piece of jewelry, a status symbol, to show everyone that you have certain financial resources. Everybody knows what a Rolex is, so going out in public with it means putting a probable target on yourself for unwelcome attention.

100% agree your vision. I have no problem buying a 1500,- F1, but I do have a problem paying 280$ for a Moonswatch. Hope they release a regular version with the “TAG” logo. Not a fan of the “Kith”

In fact financially the moonswatch did not make a difference! The Swatch Group revenue is around CHF 7.5-8bn with a profit of 0.8bn in the last years. So pretty much flat. The company is publicly traded and the financial records are available to anyone. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Odd that you harped on the "price reduction" so much when the original msrp was $260. Even the ones with gold hands were sub $300. The only one close to $320 mrsp was the snoopy.

Very good point. The spillover effects were surely spread in many directions. I personally bought other watches when I picked up a MoonSwatch and I'm guessing I wasnt the only one who did this. The increased foot traffic into Swatch boutiques was an excellent strategy. And the inflection in Speedmaster coverage led me to buy an Omega Speedmaster...which I dont think I would have without the MoonSwatch publicity.

I think there are a lot of young people and kids wearing Moon Swatches now. That in the future could buy Omegas, not to mind the boost in Speedmaster sales. I look at it as setting up the next generation of Omega owns, which brands have been having issue with. I don’t think it honestly cheapened the brand, if Rolex did it uses would be lapping it up oh wait they did and you did “TUDOR” and when you think of Omega you don’t think of the Moon swatch do you, no, you still think about the Speedmaster. The problem is a lot of watch snobs have money and are out of touch with average people and what they will spend on something, think back before you bought your first Luxury watch. Look at Tag with the original F1, it didn’t hurt Tag.
